We are a company committed to sustainability and we seek to develop continuous improvement of our processes and services for the benefit of the environment, always aware of the conditions of our environmental licensing.
In 2018, we obtained certifications in international standards: ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 and 45001:2018, and we became one of the first ABS certified companies in Brazil to obtain the new ISO 45001:2018 (formerly OHSAS 18001).
In the same year, we prepared our Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Policy (QHSE), with which we reinforce our commitment to operational excellence and safety, as well as protecting the environment, preserving the integrity of our people and complying with all applicable legal requirements.
Marine Monitoring – water, sediment and biota
Our goal is to evaluate the potential interference of transshipment operations in the marine environment. Around the terminal, we conduct regular monitoring and studies of the marine biological structure. We monitor the water quality level, always focusing on the prevention of ecosystem changes, organism density, diversity and species distribution.
Monitoring the nesting activity of sea turtles
In partnership with the companies Port of Açu and Ferroport, we recorded all reproductive and non-reproductive occurrences of sea turtles and stranded cetaceans and sea turtles in the monitored area around the terminal, a length of 62 km of beach between São João da Barra, from Pontal Beach, and Campos dos Goytacazes, to Barra do Furado Beach.
We follow the directives and guidelines of Centro Tamar/ICMBio, reference institution in Brazil. And all data generated is forwarded to the Sea Turtle Information System, SITamar.
We continuously monitor the coastal stretches on an uninterrupted basis daily, identifying, georeferencing and mapping the occurrences of nesting and hatching of sea turtle hatchlings.
In addition, we have a veterinary support and treatment base for rehabilitation and reintroduction of animals that are debilitated to the natural environment.
Satellite Telemetry of Loggerhead Sea Turtles (caretta caretta)
In order to boost the advance of knowledge about the behavior of sea turtles in the Northern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro and improve their conservation, we closely monitored the movement of animals for 31 months. Based on scientific publications available for consultation, we prepared a model with the history of these data and began to perform a satellite tracking of 25 females during the reproductive period. The fieldwork involved two reproductive seasons (2016-2017 and 2017-2018).
Environmental education and social communication
Through educational actions we make our staff and the population around the terminal aware of its environmental reality. The goal is that everyone develops critical thinking and can contribute to the preservation of nature.
We highlight the program of training and qualification of environmental multiplier agents. Through a booklet with themes related to sustainability, the environment, environmental licensing, regional history and culture and human rights and citizenship, we raise awareness and replicate the information.
In addition, we guarantee an open channel of communication for our neighbors, contractors and employees. We believe in transparency and dialogue to build a better world.
Management of solid wasre and liquid effluent
We ensure that all waste generated by our activities is properly collected, packaged, transported, treated and disposed of, always complying with all legal standards. In this way we maintain the quality of the water and preserve the environment around us.
In addition, we recognize waste as an economic and social asset, in accordance with the principles of prevention and precaution, eco-efficiency and shared responsibility through the life cycle of products. We believe in sustainable development.
